Hoodia

Also known as Hoodia Gardonii, this is an ingredient that is included in several brands of weight loss supplements.  This diet supplement became popular after being features on the popular television show, 60 Minutes.

This diet supplement was originally marketed to young males but has now released several different formulations including one marketed only to women.  According to the manufacturer, the product does not depend on any specific ingredient for its effectiveness but on the blend of ingredients.   Reading the list of “blends” I found I have no idea what they are as these are not ingredients I’m familiar with.

The recommended dosage of three pills taken with water twice a day will perhaps increase alertness as caffeine is an ingredient in this supplement.

SlimQuick

Designed specifically for women, SlimQuick markets its product as and advanced fat burner that claims to overcome hormonal and physical barriers specific to women trying to lose weight.

The ingredients are groups into a list of “complexes” with a complex of vitamin/mineral ingredients, another labeled as a hormone balancing complex.  What is clear is the inclusion of 200 mg of caffeine substances in each capsule.  The initial recommend dosage is one capsule before breakfast and one more dose six hours later.   It is recommended that dosage be increased in the second week to two capsules twice a day.   At that level, SlimQuick delivers 800 mg of caffeine which could be a problem for any user not accustomed to such stimulants or to someone who drinks caffeine containing drinks during the day.

SlimQuick is not one diet supplement but offers a variety of formulas from the standard to a night formula and offers another version with SlimQuick Extreme.  Unlike the next top weight product reviewed, every SlimQuick product page has a significant list of personal and medical conditions that could lead to serious side effects when using the product.

Liporidex

This extremely popular weight loss supplement was developed by doctors and medical researchers which I found reassuring.   The ingredients are clearly listed along with explanations of the purpose of each ingredient.   Liporidex is an all-natural diet supplement that contains no caffeine or chemical stimulants.

Perhaps for that reason, there are no warnings listed for this dietary supplement.   There is no long list of consumers who should avoid taking the product.   To the contrary, the safety of Liporidex and purity of ingredients is stressed as much as the benefits and fat burning properties of the diet pill.

Offered by only one manufacturer provides quality control of ingredients missing in hoodia or acai products where fly-by-night companies often do not provide the ingredients listed on the label.

Users of Liporidex have reported excellent weight loss while using the supplement.   The ability of the supplement to target abdominal fat (the hardest fat to lose for many of us) is mentioned by users often as is an increase in metabolism and thus energy levels without the nervous feeling caused by caffeine or chemical stimulants of other diet pills.

Unlike the sales pages for some other top weight loss supplements, Liporidex has an excellent refund policy that offers a personal consultation for customers who have special diet needs.   The manufacturer encourages users to ask questions and provides contact information for that purpose.

Acai Berry

Diet supplements containing Acai often refer to the Acai berry as a “superfood”.   Of course it is – all berries are.   The nutritional value of berries is not in question.   What is questionable is whether there are any fat burning or hunger pang reduction properties in the various forms of Acai marketed.   Capsules, juice, pills, powder – all are promoted as diet aids with no scientific basis for the claims of effectiveness.

Unfortunately, the popularity of Acai Berry products is not due to how well the products work but to good marketing that has created sales with unsubstantiated claims.  The products using Acai to promote diet aids have been investigated closely because of shady selling tactics.  Customer who fail to read the privacy policy on the sales site for an Acai product may find themselves added to multiple mailing lists for anything being sold as a diet or health aid.

Requesting a free sample is featured on many websites selling Acai as a top weight loss supplement and this is what has led to scam complaints.   When a customer gives their credit card information on the Acai site, it is only to pay for “shipping and handling” of their free sample of the product.   In truth, many sellers of various Acai Berry diet products then use that credit information to re-charge the account monthly for $80 or more for recurring shipments.  This is an unpleasant surprise for buyers and becomes even more frustrating when they find it almost impossible to contact the seller to cancel the recurring order.

In the end, for some products thought of as the top weight loss supplement, low quality ingredients, substandard manufacturing practices and underhanded marketing lead to consumers disappointed in a high cost product that provides no benefits and may carry health risks of side effects.

Still looking for the quick weight loss diets? You do not have enough of failing? You still think that by trying to lose with so many different weight loss programs, you will lose the extra fat around your belly or shrink your thunder thighs?

But for what cost?
